Once upon a time a boy loved a girl and wanted her to be his forever. Being a dreamer, the boy started making plans for the most magical proposal he could imagine. His searching led him to Paris as the location for which he would ask the girl of his dreams to become his wife.
And it was more spectacular than for which I could ever hope! Paris is my favorite city in the whole world and going their for our proposal was the most dreamy thing I can ever imagine. Here are the exquisite details of the most perfect night of my life.
Once we decided to get married John kept dropping hints that he wanted to propose in an epic location. It was to remain a secret, though a couple of days before our trip someone accidentally mentioned where we were going. Though truthfully I had wondered all along if it would be Paris. Call it intuition! As any girl might be, I was super excited for our trip to my beloved city of Paris.
We initially traveled to Le Mont Saint-Michel before our big day. It was a city I had dreamed of visiting for most of my life after hearing stories from my grandparents of their time there while living in France with the Airforce. It was the perfect start to our trip. But back to the most important part, the proposal!
After arriving back in Paris, we rushed to be ready to meet our photographer Antoine. In our hurry John might have left a very important component of our evening in the hotel room. That’s right, he forgot the ring! Haha, thankfully we were only a few blocks away when I thought to double check that he had the ring (I wasn’t waiting any longer that that sparkly diamond!). Now I knew by this point that John would propose at some point in the evening. I just didn’t know quite when.
Finally we met up with our photographer to begin taking pictures at the Pont des Arts Bridge. John had very thoughtfully engraved a lock with our name, the date of our proposal and this cheesy saying we had before getting married. In keeping with tradition we added our lock to the bridge and threw the keys away in the Seine River. Unfortunately I hear that the weight of the locks has become a hazard and have since been removed. Glad our marriage has outlasted our lock on the Pont des Arts Bridge!
We continued our most romantic evening by strolling around the Louvre, Louvre Pyramid and the Rue di Rivoli as our photographer captured our sweet interactions. For me Paris is such a romantic city and I couldn’t believe my luck to be taking my engagement photos with my sweetheart in the city I loved so much. It felt like the most wonderful dream.
After some time walking the streets it was time to meet our water vessel to enjoy our own private cruise along the Seine River. It was none other than a wooden Venetian water taxi brought to France. It was such a beautiful boat with its glossy mahogany wood! John later told me how he searched high and low for just the right boat to carry us forth to our wildest dreams. He’s clearly a man of style! Just one of the many reasons I fell in love with him.
Did I mention how romantic it was? Paris is beautifully seemingly from any angle, but to cruise along its banks with all of its glorious architecture and historic streets on full display was another experience all together. It was just the perfect time of day too, that magical golden hour. People would cheer and wave at us as we rode along from the banks for no apparent reason other than we were two lovers on a beautiful boat in Paris. Je t’aime Paris!
Up till this point I still hadn’t been officially proposed to yet but I knew it was soon. Sure enough as we drew close to the Eiffel Tower out came that little box with my gorgeous ring inside. Of course John said some sweet words as he asked me to be his wife and then placed the ring on my hand. It was so thrilling and I felt like a giddy school girl. We apparently attracted the attention of nearby dinner boat cruises and after the big moment, some people cheered and raised their glasses to us. Who are we?
For the remainder of the evening we continued to cruise along the Seine River taking pictures until we finished at the fountains at Place du Concorde. These photos are some of my favorite and we just barely squeezed them in. Thank goodness for long days in Europe during the summer months because we didn’t finish taking photos until 10:30 pm.
This my friends was our storybook Paris engagement. For me this was a once in a lifetime experience, in an incredible place, with the love of my life. And he nailed it! I can’t imagine our proposal being any better. As John said, “Even if we had all the money in the world, it could not have been any better. This was the best the world has to offer.” I love Paris even more after it became “our city” in such a special way. And I will always love you John.
